The purpose of the ICG stimulation test is to examine the functioning of your liver. ICG (=indocyanine green) is a cyanine dye that travels unchanged in the bloodstream to bile through the liver. The test measures the elimination of ICG in the bloodstream.

Eating influences the test result

Do not eat anything after 8 p.m. the evening before the test. You can drink water. You can drink a glass of water on the morning of the test. The fast ends when the test is finished.

Blood samples

A blood sample is taken at the start of the test. Then, a cannula is inserted into the crook of the arm, through which the test substance (ICG) is administered. The final four blood samples are take through the cannula every five minutes.

The test takes approximately two hours.
