FLOW-VOLUME SPIROMETRY

Flow-volume spirometry tests the functioning of the lungs by measuring the volume and performance of the lungs. The test is painless. The test takes approximately one hour.

Test process

In flow-volume spirometry, you blow on a spirometer according to the nurse’s instructions. Reliable results require repetition. In connection with the test, a bronchodilation test is carried out to examine the effectiveness of bronchodilators.

Preparing for the examination

Do not eat a heavy meal (but do not fast) or drink coffee, tea, cola or other stimulating drinks for four hours before the test.

Avoid heavy physical extortion for two hours before the test.

Do not use nicotine products or smoke for two hours before the test.

It is prohibited to drink alcohol on the day of the test and the day before.

Medication

( ) You can take drugs affecting the bronchi and other medication normally on the morning of the test.

( ) Do not take drugs affecting the bronchi and follow the instructions below. You can take other medication normally.

Bring your valid prescriptions or a list of medication you are using with you.

Other instructions

Do not get tested until two weeks have passed since your recovery from a respiratory tract infection.

If you fall ill or wish to reschedule your appointment, please contact your attending ward, outpatient clinic or private clinic.

Please arrive at the laboratory on time.
