PREPARING FOR LABORATORY TESTS - CHILDREN

Take your child to laboratory tests according to their care plan. Bring the test referral with you if one has been provided.

You can book an appointment for the test. You can book the appointment free of charge online at www.fimlab.fi> Book an appointment. You can also call Fimlabs appointment booking service at 010 808 515, on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Sample containers can be picked up and returned without an appointment.

Preparation affects the interpretation and reliability of test results. Inform the person taking the sample if your child has not been able to follow these instructions or any specific instructions received.

Fasting

Some laboratory tests are performed after fasting. During fasting, your child should not eat anything and should only drink water, unless otherwise instructed. Fasting instructions are provided by the healthcare unit.

Insulin and Other Medications

If your child uses insulin, you will receive fasting instructions from the healthcare unit. You may give medications as usual unless otherwise instructed by the healthcare unit or specific test instructions. For questions about medications, consult your child's doctor.

Exercise

Your child should avoid physical exertion that causes sweating on the morning of the test.
